I have never seen one of these moths in my life, and i think it's won a special place in the corner of my heart that i have reserved just for bad ass moths.The contrast of the green/blue fuzzy head stripes.... with the subtle shades of tan in outlined waves on it's wings... omg, it's too cool. Sometimes understated beauty is best.
There were actually several of these moths all in one spot outside my front door. Has anyone ever seen one of these before, or can give me an ID on what type of moth it is?

What you have there, Leslie, is a Banded Tussock Moth, also sometimes called a Pale Tiger Moth. Scientific name is Halysidota tessellaris. Here is a great info page on it: http://bugguide.net/node/view/541. Thanks so much for the great photos, I love following your blog.
Maybe you should invest in this for your drinking water. A lot of people use this over seas and say its a life saver. Just a thought.

I've been reading your blog for some time now, and always hesitated to say anything, but I can't get over the moth love. It's amazing how you can appreciate their beauty. Too many people regard them as pests, when in reality they are so beautiful and fascinating. I also think they are sometimes overshadowed by their relatives, butterflies.
