Not Trespassing: She's My Trailer Pie

OK... I am not going to lie - this abandoned trailer, although cute and pink is not for sale. But I swear I never saw that black and white sign above my head that said I wasn't supposed to fall into the trap of my curiosity. How's a girl to have fun in the middle of the woods, unless she explores some mysteries? This trailer contains several genre of freaky that pulled me towards it and even inside it, like a bug to a bug light...
It seemed to be loved and cared at some time - by someone who planned to come back and continue to love their peachy hide out in the woods...
but as the inscription in the concrete says " The Mathus's 1985", I am kinda thinking shortly after the late 80's maybe no one ever came back.
Bort came with me, which added a layer of fun... two sets of eyes see twice as much creepy, and also I enjoy greatly watching someone else jump when something touches them or falls cause everything around is a quiet horror.
ON THE INSIDE::::::
It smelled of mold, and that old rotten funk of things from the 1970's and 1980's when moisture begins to eat them into non existence. The kitchen area had picnic plates and hard plastic fake flowers at the table - things placed in such a way as if someone had made them tidy while letting the walls fall down around them - a skitzzzzophrenic sort of decay.
There were old furnishings, like a snazzy old leather sofa, a bed with sheets still on it, a cot, a lawn chair --- then odd shit like a big rain barrel thrown in the living area.
There was this cool rusted old wood stove, which I LOVED because I used to have one just like it at my favorite house in Marshall NC - I had gotten mine at the thrift store and it had a sort of sentimental value that I can't describe - except it touched on my love of the lifestyle I live.
At the front broken window was a table with utensils on it, with this beautiful old 70's steak knife. A fake wood handle, with floral decor and instead of being "made in china" it was "made in England" !
The back door was open, the lock busted --- unlike the front which strangely had a pad lock on it, even though every window was busted so big you could stick half your body in it and reach over.
Also, next to the door was this cool handle .... door handle, or handle jus' ta' help ya on in tha' door????
Inside that door was a small back bedroom full of broken glass and wire cots and bed frames. A sliding door closet, and a little mirrored medicine cabinet.
THE BATHROOM was most volatile!!!! Freaking awesome plastic tile floor which brought me back to my childhood, the floors in my Paw Paw's cajun house down in the swamps of raceland , LA... nobody makes these brick red and psychedelic patterns anymore.
The bathroom itself, was a nightmare beyond all nightmares - It woulda made my OCD mom faint, and put the fear of instant death into the chemically sensitive, and plain grossed out most humans.

Ya see that bright f-en green junk in the toilet, that jus' a bit o' ANTI-Freeze. WTF?
With some tennis shoes in the bathroom sink.....

And bunches of cigarette ashes in the soap dish/ toothpaste holder....

BACK OUTSIDE::::

Was my favorite feature .... the sink that leads to nowhere with no water ! Playing pretend is always fun!
That sink is just set up out in the yard, but not far at all from the trailer, ya see?
I was thinking about setting up all the plates, utensils and glasses (from the kitchen) up like a ghost picnic at the awkwardly tall black metal and wooden table out front..... but thought maybe scaring the locals would be a bad thing.....

WOuld YoU have done it?
PS - the title of this post "she's my trailer pie" refers to a spoof on this song.

Man In a Mini House

I met this guy, let's call him "Mikey", living in the tiniest of all tiny spaces eva' ... and even though he was not necessarily keen on his tiny house situation I found the basics of his survival to be poetic and just plain cool.
His temporary home in the 'shed' house can't be more then 6 feet by 12 feet... (give or take 2 feet on each side cause i didn't measure) with no running water or real electric source, just an extension cord for a basic thing or two. Mikey washes his hands in the creek below his tiny abode, the creek he has made into a rock landscaped personal oasis for himself.
When he tried running a heater inside the house, the uncovered eaves had invited all types of insects and birds into the roof - so wasps and ladybugs began squeezing out the ceiling cracks, and he'd wake up to a wasp resting on his pillow. He chose not to spray them though cause of the birds making their nests in there too. Instead he makes a fire at night to warm up to outside.
Mikey is a naturalist, private kind of guy - just him and his really sweet dog. I really enjoyed warming by the fire and petting the dog, the dog liked sitting on my feet and putting it's tail dangerously close to the fire. I liked dreaming of tiny house living.

Normally I'd talk about how much people LOVE their tiny eco savvy homes, but Mikey does not like it... there is still so much potential in that simple structure, which was built for "jus' $900" ... i could see a wood stove being put underneath, walling in the bottom to have two tiny stories in the space, the bottom being for heat and cooking, the top for resting. With all the free supplies you can get on craigslist these days, building this kind of tiny structure, or just finishing up an existing one like this could be done virtually for free.

Do any of ya'll have a favorite mini house?! What is the smallest space you'd be willing to live?

Abandoned Bus, Abandoned Upcycled Home

Walking down the road at the base of Earlys Mountain in Big Sandy Mush, I saw this crusty old bus across a big farm field. Like a magnet I was pulled towards it to find out what the details of it's history were...I just knew it had at have been at least a party bus for some teens, a school bus full of old seats, or an empty bus full of ghosts. I also needed to use the bathroom at that moment and needed something to hide behind anyway. :)
Once I was there I felt brave- I could sense no one was in there and that no one would care if I pulled the rusted door open to get a better peak inside the mystery van...
The inside of the outer door was dark red with padded & quilted looking plastic material - Fancy! First thing I saw was the steering wheel, hole in the floor, and piles of furnishing trash. Or rather trashed furnishings.
The inside looked as though it had once been the 70's pimp mobile! The ceiling was this fabulous tan quilted pattern, there was a kitchenette cabinet and the whole thing had obviously been outfitted like a luxurious camping RV!
The broken old windows once had groovy curtains- picturing the upcycled bus's glory days was not hard at all. I wish it had been my own glory bus.
I went around the outside to the front of the bus, where it looked like traditional junk yard bus- with no sign of the ancient party inside.
The windows were target practice, surely for teenage boys or drunk rednecks.
The sides of the bus read something like "Forest Hills... Schools". I got behind the bus, used the bathroom and left. Too bad marking territory in the human world isn't as easy as marking it in the animal world.

I Am Trespassing

Yesterday I was in a grand funk, blame it on hormones or being cooped up in the same area too long- I played out my re-occurring run away fantasy and got on my bike "cajun knuckle" and rode down the hill at speeds so fast I was glad I remembered my helmet. As always, I never get that far because curiosity consumes me faster and harder then the actual distance I wish I could go. Not even around two curves something caught my eye... a mowed lawn in front an abandoned trailer with a road behind it leading to who knows what. Of course I took my bike off the paved road and up the muddy rocky drive, then leaned it up against the red gate I was about to jump.
It was obvious no one came through that road often, it had that lifeless feeling - at the same time I made up fanciful stories I would have to tell some angry farmer with a big gun when he caught me wondering around his land like a lost sheep. "Hello Sir, I apologize but I think PMS made me do it, can we be friends?!"
No one was there, but I could see some kind of large domesticated animals were at some point, fresh manure and hoof prints where in the cracked mud. I didn't expect what I did come upon - I thought maybe an old barn might be back there, but didn't know a tiny piece of history lay hidden the way trash does under summer weeds. It was a glorious old hand built cabin!
This is the kind of cabin that dreams, timelines, and horror movies are made of - so beautiful I am afraid to touch it, so creepy I couldn't stop walking towards it. I could see that no one lived there while plainly seeing in my imagination how someone actually HAD lived there. A whole life I wish could be written out clearly on the walls for me to read.
Peaking inside the broken windows I saw the remnants of the last inhabitant, coils from old rusted beds, collapsing wooden furniture, and the ever so creepy thing people put babies in that has the wheels and they can "walk" before they can walk while in it. The one in this house looked as old as me, from the 70's- but so haggard and forgotten so long I wondered who that baby is now... but wondered more how in the hec that baby pushed itself along those crooked wooden floor planks.
Such a perfect place, such a good foundation, such old weathered wood- it made me feel an old excitement I have felt since I was little sneaking into empty houses and wishing to make it my very own. The whole entire "add on" part of the cabin was not in the best shape, and I imagined re-working it into a glassed in green house section - taking the old wood from the siding and making that the ceiling in the main cabin.
I noticed the poor man sort of innovation and desperation, to be nailing up tiny pieces of wood to cover the holes in the original wood where the winter air was probably blowing in. It's endearing, and also so very real, so close to how tons of people without enough money feel right now, knowing the winter is coming and the economy is not coming with it.
Behind the cabin sits this huge weeping willow tree, growing out of a small creek. It's magical.
On my way out ( to other places to trespass), this is what I saw... I like that everything cycles back into nature.
