Wolf Spider: Babies On Board

From a distance you might think this was one hairy mo' fo' of a spider. Not only are they already huge in general, they are so on the go they carry their egg sack whenever they scatter to, and then this... carrying ALL their babies on their back after they are born! This wolf spider was at the window inside my house trying to find a way out so I caught it in this large glass to get a closer look and then release it outside. I think there were about 5 babies that fell off in the process (sorry little guys) and if you are arachnophobic you would have pee'd yourself when you saw how the baby blob would move around in tight waves when touched... holy freakiness!

Wolf Spider Carrying Egg Sack

Bad...ass...! Ya'll shoulda seen this thing running across the freshly ho'ed dirt in my garden, holding that perfect sphere full of spider babies. Wolf spiders are no joke, they look like what I imagine a baby taranchula would look like... meaning they are huge and startling. Fantastic how so many things in nature are so much like each other, like the sack looks a little like the stuff wasps make their nests out of, and the sack itself is in a circle like most eggs (chicken, human, etc...). (Sigh of love.)

Wolf Spider & Regional Roach

These are two of the insects that were living in the cow bones I collected a few days ago. Mr. Stripes is what I have heard called a 'Wolf Spider' by local people here in the smokey mountains, and he was HUGE... And this red & black hued beauty below, Mr. Good Bar, is the hysterically tiny cockroach of this region. No bigger then my thumb print, he's so small he's not even scary, ugly, or even scream worthy like the mega pumped up flying roaches of New Orleans. He's so fulfilled by nature he doesn't even bother to come in your house and eat your garbage, crumbs, and soap- nor will you wake up with his weight on your chest staring you down in the night, only to crawl up your face and terrorize your sleeping patterns for months. (True story circa 2000).

Wolf Spider and Some Other Beast

It's too bad the size of these bad boys gets lost in the scaling of a photograph, because they are too big 2 be true!! This must be gigantic spider season here in Western North Carolina... so enjoy the influx of creepy beautiful pictures of them. This looks like a wolf spider up top, but the bottom pic, well he's just a ferocious BEAST!
