There are several alternatives to using an electric powered washing machine... all of them have their specific design benefits, but one thing they all have in common is you no longer depend on the grid (aka electric energy) in order to get your laundry squeeky clean...
I happen to have the Lehman's Hand Washer (which is almost the same exact design as the well known James Washer!) Whenever anyone comes over to visit at the Luck Cabin they love to see how the Hand Washer really works - children are especially into it (i know, shocking!), they'll beg me for more laundry to wash. I bet you parents out there don't hear that often (ever?)!

Here is a quick vid to show how the hand washer works in the real. I included some deleted scenes at the end. ;)

PS --- I could not get this video to ever edit captions and sounds in sync, so I had to leave out the captions... the last four scenes after "the end" are the deleted scenes. :))) Eventually I will figure out this technology shit.
Xoxoxox
So cool! It's weird to hear your voice after all these years Bra! Oh you have a sound sync problem BTW. Love you, keep teaching me stuff:)
ReplyDeleteHey mara - thanks for letting me know, I am re-uploading the video to youtube now to see if it fixes it. The original copy was A-OK.
ReplyDeleteI love you too, ya dig xoxoxoxo
Ok, now the sound is fixed but the captions disappeared!!!
ReplyDeleteBe patient my lovely lovable readers and I will have this fixed by late tonight. ;)
You'll know it's right when it announces the deleted scenes.
Boy, ol' JuJu has a set of pipes on her, doesn't she?
ReplyDeleteYou probably won't want to use the hose in the video to provide water to any of the farm animals, nor would you want to drink from it yourself. They used to be made with lead to keep the hose malleable.
Hey Lou!
ReplyDeleteJuju is LOUD. :)
How can you tell when a hose was made, and when did they stop putting lead in them?
PS- i should have this video re-loaded in about 30 minutes, with the correct sound & captions.
awesome video! I had no idea the washer and ringer were that easy to use.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing this :)
In the late 1990's Kansas had a public information/safety campaign about the use of lead in garden hoses. Turns out, the hoses are STILL being made with lead (gee, thanks, FDA and EPA). The only way to tell is if you buy a new hose and it has a warning label on it saying "don't drink from this hose" and "wash hands after use" which suggests lead is used in the outer casing as well.
ReplyDeleteYou should be able to find no-lead hoses on the internets.
Leslie: How Dee neighbor. I saw a video on you tube and thought about the hippy chick in Madison or Haywood or where ever yer holler is at. You mite want to check it out it's a long one but a good watch for you.

Anyway thought you mite want it for your research one day.
Later Tater.
Hey Liberty -
ReplyDeleteIt is really easy, and if you do less a load then i did it's almost too easy to be true. :)
I like to shove tons of stuff in there though.
Lou Cheese...
SCary HOSes. gawd, I am starting to think the humans are stupider then I ever suspected.

That film was incredible!! Holy shit, because I have been selling organic/sustainable clothing for a living since 2006 I was really amazed by how much WORSE the clothing industry is then I even knew. The chemicals, the people it makes sick, the people it kills. Outragous.
I recommend everyone sees what happens to the people in other countries who slave away for our fashion & consumer products... is a hot new outfit from H&M, full of chemicals that made someone in india so sick they are on respirators, worth it?
Thank you so much for making this video! It's just what I had hoped you'd do after getting the video camera! :) Roughly how long does it take you to do a full load, from start to wringing finish?
ReplyDeleteHey Anon -
ReplyDeleteIt takes between 5-10 minutes, depending if you want to do an extra rinse (2nd wash with new water)... i dont take the time for the second rinse unless I'm washing really dirty clothing.
I only have to pull the swisher back and forth to about one classic rock song on the radio, and ring out to one more song. ;)
