Everything on my breakfast plate was organically grown right here on the property I live. The free range chickens layed the eggs and I grew & harvested the green beans, yellow squash, dill and garlic chives. It totally rocks to finally see the fruits of ya' labor (labor of love) -and oh dang it was sooooooooo good. Melt in your mouth, every bite.
YAY!

Yummy! You are where you ought to be seems like it to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mokihana! I am. :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks fantastic. The fact it was home grown and organically raised makes it all the better!
ReplyDeleteDid you steam the green beans and squash? If cooking is a challenge in the cabin, has anyone up there thought about solar cooking? That could be a fun summer project.
Mr. Cheese-
ReplyDeleteI did steam them alone first, then I threw in the eggs, and the herbs into the eggs - all in the same pot.
I cook on one stupid hot plate right now, I like the way the wood stove cooks the most, but I can't use that during the summer. The Solar Oven I dream about is the "hybrid one" that can be plugged in and used solarly - but really I should try making one myself. You have good project ideas Lou Cheese! :) Also - I have missed you, now I have to go check your blog and see what you've been cooking up.
Now that I think about it, a homemade brick oven or an earth oven would be more practical. You could cook outside without having to worry about the weather or sunlight. And these things retain their heat for a long time, so everybody at Big Sandy Mush could use it after lighting just one fire.
ReplyDeleteWow Leslie, You accomplished that so fast! You are a personification of Mother Nature.
ReplyDeleteMr Cheese, You are an idea factory - i think you need to live out in the woods too, I bet you are good a building stuff like that. Building a outside stone oven is actually on the agenda, I also want to hook up an old wood stove outside too, cause I saw an abandoned one in a neighbors barn (not that I was snooping around or anything). ;)
ReplyDeleteSusie- That is so nice, thanks! It's cool how fast food grows from seed, and once it gets going it keeps on giving! I am picking a good amount of green beans, zucchini, and cucumbers now...plus I see tiny winter squash & watermelon forming now...!!!!!!
In short - like nature, I don't fuck around. ;)
Making me hungry.......
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to have my own garden.... hopefully by next summer, I will be settled.
