That's just Mother Nature's way. Due to the many, many legs the centipede has to move just to travel a quarter of an inch, the centipede is one of the least efficient travelers in the animal/insect kingdom. They probably get picked off like that all the time.

Oh, condolences to the family of the millipede on their loss. Must be teh suck living that far down on the food chain, but I guess millipedes don't worry about mercury in their tuna salad, among other things.

Poor millipede, its just walking around and ends up as a lunch..
